This review deals, mainly, with aspects related to technological process for the development of these additives, which includes selection of strains, design of culture media, microbial growth conditions, more efficient fermentation methods and recovery of the product of interest. Information is also collected on the progress obtained in this area by several research groups in Cuba. It is considered that the development of economically feasible probiotics is indispensable because of the benefits offered by these additives for animal production. For this reason, the country should continue the studies aimed at obtaining these products and increasing work relationships between national and international institutions to strengthen research and achieve its application in livestock systems.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen La obtención de aditivos probióticos destinados a la producción animal se ha estudiado durante décadas. Esta reseña aborda, fundamentalmente, los aspectos relacionados con el proceso tecnológico para el desarrollo de estos aditivos, que incluye selección de cepas, diseño de medios de cultivo, condiciones de crecimiento microbiano, métodos de fermentación más eficientes y recuperación del producto de interés. Se recopila además, información acerca de los avances alcanzados en esta temática por varios grupos de investigación en Cuba. Se considera que el desarrollo de probióticos económicamente factibles es indispensable por los beneficios que ofrecen estos aditivos para la producción animal. Por esta razón, el país debe continuar las investigaciones encaminadas a la obtención de estos productos e incrementar las relaciones de trabajo entre instituciones nacionales e internacionales para fortalecer las investigaciones y lograr su aplicación en los sistemas ganaderos.]]></p></abstract>
