Growth indexes and parameters were measured, as well as concentrations of photosynthetic pigments. The moringa cultivated in soil showed greater growth in height (24.0 cm), accumulation of dry biomass in the stem (0.22 g) and concentration of photosynthetic pigments compared to those cultivated in soil: sawdust (height: 19.8 cm and dry biomass: 0.18 g). While soil:sawdust stimulated leaf length at 14 days and root system at 28 days, as well as absolute (0.02 g day-1) and relative (0.04 mg mg-1 day-1) growth rate. With this experiment, it is concluded that the establishment of moringa under nursery conditions, with soil as substrate, stimulates the production of photosynthetic pigments, growth in height, and dry biomass of the stem. Soil:sawdust substrate increases leaf dimensions, root biomass, and absolute and relative growth rate, as well as providing a more equitable growth between root system and the aerial part of plants. Sowing in soil:sawdust is a viable alternative for places in which rains are infrequent.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen Para comparar el efecto de adicionar aserrín al sustrato en el crecimiento de M. oleifera en condiciones de vivero, se utilizó suelo (tierra ferralítica roja) y suelo: aserrín como sustratos, con diferencias en la capacidad de campo (suelo: aserrín mayor). Se midieron los índices y parámetros del crecimiento, así como las concentraciones de pigmentos fotosintéticos. La moringa cultivada en suelo presentó mayor crecimiento en altura (24.0 cm), acumulación de biomasa seca en el tallo (0.22 g) y concentración de pigmentos fotosintéticos con respecto a las cultivadas en suelo: aserrín (altura: 19.8 cm y biomasa seca: 0.18 g). Mientras, el sustrato suelo: aserrín estimuló, a los 14 días, el largo de las hojas, y a los 28 días, el sistema radical, así como la tasa de crecimiento absoluto (0.02 g día-1) y relativo (0.04 mg mg-1 día-1). Con este experimento se concluye que el establecimiento de moringa en vivero con el suelo como sustrato estimula la producción de pigmentos fotosintéticos, el crecimiento en altura y la biomasa seca del tallo. El sustrato suelo: aserrín incrementa las dimensiones de las hojas, la biomasa radical, la tasa de crecimiento absoluto y de crecimiento relativo; además de proporcionar un crecimiento más equitativo entre el sistema radical y la parte aérea de las plantas. La siembra en suelo: aserrín constituye una alternativa viable para lugares donde las lluvias son poco frecuentes.]]></p></abstract>
