Cook fruit meal in the ration, were used to determine morphometric indicators of their gastrointestinal tract. A completely randomized design was applied with four treatments, which consisted in the inclusion of 0, 5, 10 and 15% of palm kernel meal in the diet. At 42 days, animals were weighed and sacrificed. Gizzard, caeca and accessory organs (liver and pancreas) were weighed. There was an increase of gizzard size (23.28, 26.55, 25.68 g.kg-1) and of the empty caeca (4.42, 4.31, 5.38 g.kg-1) with respect to control (P &lt;0.05). It is concluded that the inclusion of palm kernel meal in diets for broilers increased the weight of the organs of the gastrointestinal tract, related to mechanical and fermentative digestion, which improves the use of the fibrous fraction by the animal.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen Se utilizaron 40 pollos de ceba machos, que consumen harina del fruto de Roystonea regia (Kunth) O.F.Cook en la ración, para determinar indicadores morfométricos de su tracto gastrointestinal. Se aplicó un diseño completamente aleatorizado con cuatro tratamientos, que consistieron en la inclusión de 0, 5, 10 y 15 % de harina de palmiche en la dieta. A los 42 días, los animales se pesaron y sacrificaron. Se pesó la molleja, los ciegos y órganos accesorios (hígado y páncreas). Se registró aumento de tamaño de la molleja (23.28, 26.55, 25.68 g.kg-1) y de los ciegos vacíos (4.42, 4.31, 5.38 g.kg-1) con respecto al control (P&lt;0.05). Se concluye que la inclusión de harina de palmiche en dietas para pollos de ceba aumentó el peso de los órganos del tracto gastrointestinal, relacionados con la digestión mecánica y fermentativa, lo que mejora el aprovechamiento de la fracción fibrosa por parte del animal.]]></p></abstract>
