Metodológicamente se indagó en fuentes de información del tipo artículos de revisión ubicables en las bases de datos PubMed, Web of Science y Scopus; la lectura y análisis de las fuentes se realizó desde un abordaje hermenéutico clásico en conjunto con reflexiones y propuestas del investigador. Las categorías de análisis se relacionaron con las definiciones, bases teóricas y las estrategias de las competencias investigativas que se pueden implementar en el sistema universitario para fomentar su desarrollo. Los hallazgos permiten concebir a las competencias investigativas como un conjunto de conocimientos, destrezas y actitudes necesarias para lograr un desempeño efectivo en el proceso investigativo. Su proceso formativo puede estudiarse desde el constructivismo social, constructivismo histórico-cultural y la investigación formativa. Las principales estrategias para fomentar su desarrollo involucran aprendizaje basado en proyectos, clubes de lectura, redacción de ensayos, participación en grupos de investigación, semilleros de investigación, entre otros. Se concluye que las competencias investigativas son necesarias para la formación de los estudiantes de las ciencias de la salud, principalmente para el fomento del pensamiento crítico y la toma de decisiones basada en evidencia.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT The objective of this theoretical essay is to present an update on investigative skills and describe a frame of reference so that it can be applied to university programs in health sciences. Methodologically, review articles located in the PubMed, Web of Science and Scopus databases were consulted. The reading and analysis of the sources were carried out from a classical hermeneutic approach, together with reflections and proposals from the researcher. The categories of analysis were related to the definitions, theoretical bases and strategies of the investigative competences, which can be implemented in the university system to promote their development. The findings allow us to conceive investigative competencies as a set of knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to achieve effective performance in the investigative process. Its formative process can be studied from social constructivism, historical-cultural constructivism and formative research. The main strategies to promote their development involve project-based learning, reading clubs, essay writing, participation in research groups, research hothouses, among others. It is concluded that investigative skills are necessary for the training of health science students, mainly for the promotion of critical thinking and evidence-based decision-making.]]></p></abstract>
