El presente artículo es una síntesis del Informe &#8220;Tornado intenso que afectó la ciudad de La Habana el 27 de enero de 2019. Análisis de las causas que lo generaron&#8221; (Carnesoltas, M. et al., 2019). El resultado de la investigación tuvo como único objetivo &#8220;analizar los principales factores físicos y meteorológicos que propiciaron el desarrollo del intenso tornado&#8221;. En el mismo se incluyeron los mapas de las condiciones sinópticas existentes ese día, las imágenes de satélite, de las observaciones de radar y de las mediciones terrestres de la estación automática y convencional de Casa Blanca, así como las fuentes de información empleadas; se describe la inestabilidad generada por una profunda vaguada en todos los niveles, que generó la formación de una activa línea de tormentas en forma de arco por delante de un frente frío (eco arqueado en la línea prefrontal). Se expusieron además los resultados obtenidos por el modelo numérico WRF que reflejó todo el proceso con los campos de la CAPE, vorticidad, reflectividad, entre otros. Entre los resultados significativos es que no aparecieron indicios de la existencia anticipada de ninguna supercelda clásica, ni una minisupercelda, sino que las características del tornado se asemejaron en varios aspectos a un vórtice de la &#947; - meso escala dentro del &#8220;Sistema Convectivo Cuasi - Lineal&#8221; (que constituyó la línea prefrontal).]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT On January 27, 2019 an EF4 category tornado, classified according to the improved Fujita Pearson scale, affected Havana city, causing great destruction and the loss of human lives. This article is a synthesis of the report &#8220;Intense Tornado that affected the city of Havana on January 27, 2019, Analysis of the causes that generated it&#8221; (Carnesoltas, M. et al., 2019).. The sources of information used: maps of the synoptic conditions from that day, satellite images, radar observations and surface measurements from the automatic weather station (AWS) and the conventional Casa Blanca station The instability generated by a deep trough at all levels is described, which generated the formation of an active arc-shaped storm line in front of a cold front (arched echo in the prefrontal line). There are presented the results obtained by the WRF numerical model that reflected the whole process with the CAPE fields, vorticity and reflectivity, among others. One of the significant results is that there was no indication of the anticipated existence of any classic super cell, nor a mini-super cell, but that the characteristics of the tornado resembled in several aspects a vortex of the &#947;-meso scale within the &#8220;Convective Quasi-Linear System &#8221; (which constituted the prefrontal line).]]></p></abstract>
