Scope and editorial Policy

Scope

Biotecnología Aplicada is a journal that publishes results and experiences from scientific research in the field of modern Biotechnology.
The main topics are a) molecular genetics and recombinant DNA-related technologies; b) prophylactic and therapeutic use of molecules obtained by biotechnology; c) immuno-technology and development of diagnostic methods; d) chemistry, biochemistry and the design of molecules having biological activity; e) the application of recombinant DNA techniquesand its products in agriculture, animal science and the industry; f) tissue culture; g) transgenesis, fermentation, recovery and purification of biotechnological products; i) scaling-up, designing industrial plants and their economic assessment; and j) control and automation of processes.
Additionally, Biotecnología Aplicada attempts to extend its topics to the remaining national and international fields of research in applied biosciences, such as immunology, animal models of human pathologies, bioethics, neurosciences, bioremediation and other areas that are directly or indirectly related to biotechnology.

Editorial policy

The Editorial board receipts the manuscripts submitted comprised regarding the journal scope. Manuscripts are evaluated by a blind peer review process both for reviewers and authors. An editorial report is elaborated, stating the acceptance, conditioned acceptance upon major or minor modifications, or rejection of the manuscript, depending on compliance with a checklist used by the assigned field editor. Said checklist evaluates the properties of the manuscript attending to novelty, agreement of work´s objectives and experimental body with results and conclusions, also checking whether the manuscript follows or not the scientific style and format requirements for the Biotecnología Aplicada journal. Upon acceptance, the manuscript is subjected to linguistic, style and format correction, translation (if originally written in Spanish), composition, and galley proofs are sent to the authors for checking the final art. Once published, the article is distributed within the journal. The corresponding author receives a free copy of the journal by conventional mail, in CD-ROM format. A pdf copy of the article is also published in the web site of the journal.

 

 

Submission of the manuscript

The manuscripts should be sent preferentially by e-mail to Elfos Scientiae Editorial Office (elfos@cigb.edu.cu), specifying in the subject of the message that it is a Manuscript submission to BA. Also, three hard copies of the manuscripts could be submitted by postal mail with an electronic copy in a digital format to the Editorial house. All manuscripts will be placed at the consideration of the Editorial Board, irrespective of their contents or further
section assignment.
The manuscripts should include an introductory letter, signed by all authors with the following information: a) a statement that all authors have read and accepted the submitted version of the manuscript and all its parts; b) a confirmation that neither the submitted paper nor any of its parts have been published elsewhere (except as abstracts or press reports), nor will it be submitted to any other media for its publication without previously informing Biotecnología Aplicada; c) a statement on the financial or any other type of relationship that could lead to a conflict of interest; d) the name, address, telephone, fax and electronic mail address of the correspondence author, who will be in charge of the communication with the coauthors.
