INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

 

Scope and policy

Pedagogical Reference's mission is to offer scientific articles publication services and disseminate results of academic and scientific research to the university community of the "José Antonio Echeverría" Technological University of Havana; as well as other national and international researchers and teachers with an interest in the areas of Educational Sciences and Pedagogical Sciences.
The general content of the Pedagogical Reference magazine consists of articles that highlight the particular problems, advances, experiences, history, reflections and theorizations related to the teaching of Engineering and Architecture. It includes the work of determining the social needs of initial training of future graduates, of the curricular improvement in the careers and subjects of the training of engineers and architects, the activity of continuous training of the professors of the Engineering and Architecture careers, the integration of ICT to the teaching-learning process, distance education, the formation of values in these professionals, and other topics related to the social purpose of the publication.

 

Form and preparation of manuscripts

  • Editorial: Document written by the editor, a member of the Editorial Committee, or a visiting researcher, on the main theme of the journal issue, on an event or activity of national or international impact and relevance that takes place on the date of publication. Articles:
  • Theoretical review.

They constitute the product of a bibliographic investigation where the points of view of other authors are analyzed, systematized and integrated; the results of research, published or not, in the field of Pedagogical Sciences applied in Engineering and Architecture. These articles are characterized by presenting a careful bibliographic review in order to account for the advances and development trends in these sciences. The structure of this type of article should be consulted in the journal's rules.

  • Research results.

Documents that present original results of completed research projects in the area of Educational and Pedagogical Sciences, in Engineering and Architecture. It is a way to publicize the novel results of scientific work in these branches. The structure of this type of article should be consulted in the journal's rules.

  • Experiences in the training of Engineers and Architects.

They include works related to the experiences of: teachers; groups of disciplines, subjects, departments, in solving pedagogical problems. Incorporating the theoretical foundations that serve as the basis for the analysis of experiences. It is a way of recovering and systematizing these experiences and providing useful material for Higher Education. The structure of this type of article should be consulted in the journal's rules.

  • History and reflection.

Dedicated to collecting and disseminating the history of institutional and departmental development, of subjects, laboratories, personalities or relevant moments in the life of the university center, appreciated in the activity of student or teacher. Reflections on the needs and contradictions in the activity of the professor of Engineering and Architecture, as well as, on the ways, experiences and possible solutions to improve the work of the professor who teaches in the careers of Engineering and Architecture. It can be the result of an interview. This type of article seeks to rescue and divulge the history and the treasured experience in an abbreviated way. The structure of this type of article should be consulted in the journal's rules.

  • What's new: Information on events, courses, sites of interest for the teaching of Engineering and Architecture with links to official pages, promotion to virtual spaces for discussion, reviews of research that have achieved recent results, among other inquiries of interest for pedagogical practice in the teaching of Engineering and Architecture.

Peer review process Pedagogical

Reference has established an arbitration policy under the double blind modality. The Editorial Committee will select a pair of referees who do not have information about the author of the article, nor do they have knowledge of each other. The Journal reserves the right to reject articles that, based on the arbitration, are not considered appropriate for publication.

The Editorial Board of the magazine will acknowledge receipt to the authors of the works that arrive and will subsequently inform them of its acceptance or rejection.

Open access policy

Pedagogical Reference, it is published in digital format with free access to its content.

The journal assumes as its own the principles of open access established in the declarations of Berlin, Bethesda and Budapest, which is why we accept that the work presented is distributed in open access, protecting copyright under a Creative Commons Attribution Licens -ShareAlike 4.0 International.

This license allows others to Share- copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format. Adapt - remix, transform and create from the material for any purpose, even commercially.

ShareAlike - If you mix, transform, or create new material from this work, you will be able to distribute your contribution as long as you use the same license as the original work.

This journal uses Open Journal Systems 2.4.8.2, which is an open access journal manager and software developed, funded and distributed free of charge by the Public Knowledge Project subject to the GNU General Public License.

In addition, we suggest that authors pre-publish their manuscripts in institutional repositories or on their websites before and during the process of submitting their works for evaluation, and publish the PDF corresponding to the final version of the Journal after its publication. These practices benefit authors with productive exchanges, as well as increased citation of published works.

Collection policies

RP does not charge any fee for the published texts and neither for the texts submitted for evaluation, review, publication, distribution or download. There are no costs of processing the articles, shipping costs, or any other charge required to authors for submitting their articles to this journal.

Form and preparation of manuscripts

Pedagogical Reference publishes original articles on the training of engineers and architects.

It captures topics of interest to higher education, including the integration of ICT in the university educational context.

GENERAL DRAFTING RULES:

Presentation of the articles The article must have the following complementary elements and meet the following requirements:

  • The article must be unpublished (not published before or presented to an event)
  • Title in Spanish and English (maximum 15 words).
  • Authors' data (Name (s) and Surname; Institution- University / Department / Faculty: Position; Scientific degree; Teaching category; Email; ORCID code).
  • The ORCID code identifies in a unique and standardized way the names of the authors in the field of science. You can create this code on the page https://orcid.org/about/what-is-orcid
  • Summary in Spanish and English (approximately 250 words, must include: introduction to the topic, problem, objective, main results and conclusions).
  • Keywords in Spanish and English.
  • Authorship criteria Up to a maximum of 5 authors are admitted, and the inclusion of students who wish to present research results in concluding periods of their diploma thesis or projects under development, in collaboration with their tutors. Those articles (mainly research results) that are derived from Projects, must select the members who have made significant contributions, ensuring that all of them are included as authors and have seen, approved and agreed on the final version of the document for its presentation and publication.
  • Contribution of authorship and conflict of interest All authors of a manuscript must have contributed significantly to the development of the research, in all or most of its phases.

When the article is a collaboration of 2 or more authors, a paragraph must be specified at the end of the article where the contribution of each of the authors is clearly specified. In turn, it should be clarified that there are no conflicts of interest between the authors or between this (if it is a single author) with other institutions, academic, scientific, business or otherwise.

  • Extension of the articles The works can have a maximum of 15 pages, including images, graphs, tables, bibliography and citations.

Format and style

  • The papers are delivered edited in Word, on letter-size page, true font, size 11, spaced and a half.
  • One-inch (2.5-centimeter) margins on both sides (left and right) of the page. Do not use indentation.
  • The texts must be presented with all the elements (images, graphics, tables, ...) placed in the position that corresponds to them and also in an attached folder deliver the images (photos, graphics, tables, diagrams, others.)
  • Each image (photos, graphs, tables, diagrams, others), numbered consecutively, with the caption that identifies them in Verdana 10.
  • JPG format will be used for images, at 300 DPI in 10 x 10 cm size.
  • Tables must be presented in Word. These should be concise, with a minimum of informative data.
  • It is important that the work be divided into headings, each of which will be identified with bold subtitles.
  • The abstract should understand all the important concepts in the article and their correlations, as well as state the main conclusions.
  • The works will be subject to the approval or not of the editorial board and to the evaluation by "blind" peers, respecting the points of view of each author.

Bibliographic references, citations and notes.

Bibliographic references refer to exclusively listing those sources that were cited in the article. In establishing the bibliography, it is requested to use the reference style following the Vancouver standard.

The sources used as references must be cited within the text numbered between brackets [1] in consecutive order with Arabic numerals, and they are listed in the References section at the end of the article in the same order of appearance.

The explanatory footnotes will be indicated with consecutive flown numbers and will be placed at the foot of the page. Only up to three notes are allowed on each page. Use this resource only for notes in no case for references.

 

Sending of manuscripts

For the submission of originals for the journal, the authors must consult the journal's rules and adhere to the established structure. They must subscribe to the magazine's platform and complete the 5 steps established internationally.

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check that their submission meets all the elements shown below. Submissions that do not meet these guidelines will be returned to the authors.
