Abstract
LAZARA MIRTA, Pérez Yánez; EMILIO, Rogés Machado and ALAIN, Gutiérrez López. Controlled cardiovascular rehabilitation in intermittent claudication. Rev cubana med [online]. 2018, vol.57, n.1, pp. 38-47. ISSN 1561-302X.
A case of a 78-year-old female patient is presented. She is hypertensive, type 2 diabetic and former smoker. She was diagnosed intermittent claudication Fontaine type IIb, and she was referred to cardiovascular rehabilitation by vascular surgeons. She was given supervised physical training, in intervals, for six months, which was mainly based on exercises, with prevalence of walking three times a week in sessions up to 60 minutes. Her clinical evolution was favorable; there was evident improvement of symptoms and functional limitation (pain-free walking, and maximum walking distance). Optimal control of risk factors and improvement of perfusion to the lower extremities was confirmed by the increase of more than 0.15 of the ankle arm index. There were no complications during the therapy.
