Abstract

BLANCO ENCINOSA, Lázaro J.. Leadership in Sports Teams - What Business Managers Can Learn from Great Athletes. Econ. y Desarrollo [online]. 2019, vol.162, n.2  Epub Aug 12, 2019. ISSN 0252-8584.

Great athletes have leadership qualities on courts and fields (and sometimes off them), which may differ according to their characters, specific situations they are in, and features of teams they are on. It is very useful to study them and analyze their behavior in order to find out reasons for that. Very often, many employees exhibit the same character and temperament as great athletes do. These employees’ personality traits need to be studied, because they need to be understood and encouraged. These employees may have an influence on their co-workers’ jobs, and organizations. If business managers would study them, they would be able to draw an analogy between great athletes and these employees. They should find ways to stimulate their jobs, as much as great athletes’ performance is encouraged. In this paper, suggestions for this are made.
