This paper deals with quality paradigms, their evolution and impact on today’s society and higher education processes. The issued guidelines on accrediting Cuban higher education institutions are examined. The impact of controlling the processes in higher education institutions is measured, and the need for a control culture to be built is underlined. Likewise, the need for Cuban universities to use organizational and management systems appropriate for facing national and international challenges is emphasized. The role played by information and documents in combining quality and internal control procedures is acknowledged.
