Abstract
DELGADO KUFFO, Andrés Mariano; CARRENO ARTEAGA, Nancy Paola and ZAMBRANO ZAMBRANO, María Inés. Tax Benefits and their Impact on the Economic Reactivation of Manabí, Ecuador, after the 2016 Earthquake. Econ. y Desarrollo [online]. 2020, vol.163, n.1 Epub June 01, 2020. ISSN 0252-8584.
The 2016 Ecuador earthquake occurred on April 16 with a moment magnitude of 7.8, affecting mostly the provinces of Manabí and Esmeraldas, and causing loss of life and serious damages to infrastructure and manufacturing industries. This paper is aimed at studying, by adopting a quantitative approach, the impact of tax benefits on the economic reactivation of Manabí after the said earthquake. The study is focused on the macroeconomic variables private investment, production, sales, and employment rates, whose values were compared before and after the earthquake, namely between 2014 und 2017. The results show that more local economic policies need to be adopted in order to improve the current conditions, so short- and medium-term analyses and forecasts could be performed.
