Abstract

PRADO FLORES, María Guadalupe  and  MARTINEZ IBARRA, Alejandra. Ecological and sanitary damages in the environment and food by the presence of heptachlor. Rev Salud Anim. [online]. 2019, vol.41, n.2  Epub Aug 01, 2019. ISSN 2224-4700.

Environmental pollution is in force and it has obvious effects on the environment resources, the populations of organisms, human health, and food. Among the pollutants are the organochlorine pesticides, where heptachlor, its metabolite and heptachlor epoxide, play an important role. Heptachlor has a persistent nature. The effects of its excessive applications in agricultural practices have generated objectionable residuals in abiotic and biotic environments. There is no legislation regarding its production and management in the Mexican territory and there are evidences of its toxic action in such region. In this review, information on the ecological and health levels converging in food is described. Evidence of the genetic and metabolic damages is mentioned, and some mechanisms of action related to the system disturbed by the mass exposures of the xenobiotic are analyzed.

Keywords : agricultural practices; environmental pollution; food; heptachlor epoxide; heptachlor pesticides.
