Abstract

RAMIREZ CASTELLANOS, Ronald Antonio. Scholar city: Santiago de Cuba in its literary language. UH [online]. 2015, n.280, pp. 94-106. ISSN 0253-9276.

Literature in Santiago de Cuba makes up a body of significant importance for Cuban literatura since the 19th century colonial times, up to the pre Revolutionary Republic; but it has unfortunately been poorly studied. A superficial review through its paths, main personalities and plays makes posible to to consider how it expresses and identitity meaning, an image of the city, an interesting dialogue with the social and political reality of that place and the country, proper of the aesthetic values that accompany the insular artistic activity.

Keywords : Cuba literature; Romanticism; Realism; Naturalism; vanguard; Francisco Ortiz; L. R. Aguirre; Agustín de la Tejera y Bazo; Wifrido Martínez Chablé; Arturo Clavijo Tisseur; Simeón Poveda y Ferrer; Pascasio Díaz del Gallego.
