Abstract

HERNANDEZ SAMPER, GADIEL FERNANDO. Civil Society in Gramsci and Maritain, Notes on Aconvergence. UH [online]. 2016, n.281, pp. 54-65. ISSN 0253-9276.

In modern political philosophy, some philosophers have made contributions in terms of the civil society's concept. Through different ways, Jacques Maritain (1882-1973) and Antonio Gramsci (1891-1937) have reached similar conclusions on the value of civil society. As from these common points, it is possible to speak about a coincidence in criteria, in an apparently un-matching line of thought. On the one hand, the Maritanian personalist neo-tomism, inspired by the political philosophy of the so-called Cristian Democracy, and Gramcian Marxism, one of the most interesting versions of current Marxism, on the other. These philosophers state the principle of a new humanistic civilization.

Keywords : political philosophy; humanism; Marxism; neo-tomism; personalist; New Christianity; historical block.
