Abstract

MONTERO ESTEVA, Amelie  and  MONTERO CABRERA, Luis A.. A Mirror between University and Society: University Extension. UH [online]. 2017, n.283, pp. 114-125. ISSN 0253-9276.

Reform at universities, with teaching-learning, research, and extension as their cornerstones, has gradually spread across Latin American universities. Changes in thinking at and development of universities have been marked by increased activities with ordinary persons, social communication, and promotion of culture in the interests of the general population, all of which can take place inside and outside universities and is part and parcel of interaction between the academic world and society. Interaction of universities with society through extension arises from fulfilling their social responsibilities, with extension services establishing relations between universities and communities. However, surveys conducted showed that these services are not being paid enough attention at the University of Havana because there is no full knowledge of their role as one of the cornerstones of higher education.
