Abstract

RUIZ SANCHEZ, Michel; RUIZ - LOZANO, Juan Manuel  and  MUNOZ HERNANDEZ, Yaumara. Aquaporins, their relationship with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi AND WATER TRANSPORT IN PLANTS. cultrop [online]. 2011, vol.32, n.3, pp. 18-26. ISSN 0258-5936.

The discovery of aquaporins in plants has caused a major change in the way of studying the water relations of plants, so that in recent years considerable efforts have been made to investigate the functions and regulations of these, since in nature the plants are continuously exposed to stress conditions that retard its growth and development, being drought, salinity and low temperatures common stresses to which they face. The aim of this work is to compile updated information about the discovery and types of aquaporins, their function in water transport of plants, their interaction with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi, and some research in rice cultivation.

Keywords : proteins; fungi; vesicular arbuscular mycorrhizae; plant water relations; drought stress; rice.
