Haemarthroses are the most frequent clinical manifestations of haemophilia. They are present in 80 and 90 % of the cases. The chronic synovitis is a serious complication due to the recurrent hemarthrosis. Different conservative treatments, such as rehabilitation and physiotherapy may be used to correct this articular alteration. If these methods fail, other techniques as surgical synovectomy and non-surgical synovectomy (chemical or isotopical) may be applied. According to the clinical pictures and the radiological results, 16 joints (10 knees, 4 ankles and 2 elbows) were treated with chemical synovectomy in 16 patients aged 7-18, 14 of them with haemophilia A and 2 with haemophilia B. The procedure consists in injecting rifampicin and intraarticular lidocaine once a week for 7 weeks at the most, covering the patient with replacement therapy up to 30 % only the day of the procedure. The indication of the synoviorthesis in more than a haemarthrosis per month allowed to obtain satisfactory results
