Abstract

To determine the relation between heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) as well as the development of thromboembolism events in patients admitted in Hospital Obrero No. 1, La Paz, Bolivia. A cross-sectional and prospective study was conducted with follow-up in 258 patients admitted in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Surgery departments of No. 1 Worker Hospital of Health National Fund. The HIT frequency of presentation was of 8.5 % with a mean of presentation at 8 days without statistically significant association between HIT and the thromboembolism complications (p< 0.05).
