Abstract
CHAPLE LA HOZ, Manuel et al. Study of the atherosclerotic injury and its relation to oxidative stress in rats. Rev Cubana Invest Bioméd [online]. 2004, vol.23, n.3, pp. 156-162. ISSN 1561-3011.
20 aortas from Wistar rats ranging between 330-370 g of weight from the Breeding Place of “Victoria de Girón” Institute of Basic and Preclinical Sciences were analyzed aimed at identifying and characterizing the atherosclerotic injury and at relating it to oxidative stress indicators as malondialdehyde. For the anatomopathological and morphometric study of the arteries, it was used the atherometric system. Blood samples were also taken to measure the levels of malondialdehyde. The most relevant results were that the adipose striae were present in the different weights and their greatest presence was observed between 330 and 3345 g. The fibrous plaques began their slow appearance in the second group and the severe plaque was more observed in the weight group 363-370 g. As regards the MDA levels, there was a significant increase in the groups of higher weight, according to the severity of the atheroma plaque
