Abstract
FEBLES SANABRIA, Ridel; LORENZO VALDES, Ubaldo; LAUREIRO LIMA, Itcel and ALDAMA FIGUEROA, Alfredo. Association of arterial injuries in non-insulin dependent diabetic patients. Rev Cubana Invest Bioméd [online]. 2004, vol.23, n.4, pp. 215-219. ISSN 1561-3011.
The relations existing between the type of arterial lesion in the lower limbs and the presence of heart and brain symptoms in type 2 diabetic patients were identified. 40 non-insulin diabetic patients were selected in a way that 20 presented an occluded arterial lesion in the limbs and the other 20 a non- occluded arterial lesion, according to the hemodynamic classification of the diabetic macroangiopathy of Aldama-Figueroa and col. (1998). The occluded patients showed a higher proportion of intermittent claudication, hypertension and heart disease. The proportion of ulcers was similar. Dizziness and unsteadiness signs were observed in 30 and 10 % of the non-occluded and occluded patients, respectively. The thesis on the existance of a higher percentage of coronary stenoocclusive lesions in patients with occluded peripheral lesions was supported. This is not corroborated for the cerebrovascular region.
