Abstract

Morbilidad del cáncer de mama en la mujer. Rev Cubana Med Gen Integr [online]. 1999, vol.15, n.3, pp. 247-252. ISSN 1561-3038.

A retrospective study of 50 patients from the health area of the Community Polyclinic No. 1, in Manzanillo, was conducted. These women had a cytomorphological diagnosis of breast cancer and were attended at the Central Breast Department of the "Celia Sánchez Manduley" Hospital, from January, 1990, to December, 1997. Some factors related to morbidity from breast cancer in our environment were analyzed. The information was processed by statistical measures with absolute numbers, percentages and prevalence rate. The disease was more frequent in the 5th and 7th decades of life. Those aged 70 were at the highest risk for getting sick. The prevalence rate of the area was 21.9 per 10 000 women. Multiparous women were associated with a reduction in the incidence of breast cancer. Obese women and those with drinking habit were more affected by cancer.
