Abstract

An intervention study conducted to determine what adolescents know about sexually transmitted diseases, and the effectiveness of the participation techniques on their knowledge. 40 9th-grade students from the "Esteban Borrero Echevarria" Secondary Basic School corresponding to "Tula Aguilera" health area, in the city of Camagüey, were selected from September, 1996, to February, 1997, to be included in the working universe. At the beginning of the investigation 80 % of the students evaluated on the topic of sexually transmitted diseases got fair or poor marks. However, at the end of classes they were reevaluated and the results were 100 % positive. To conclude, an answer is given to the hypothesis tath the participation techniques are a tool family physicians have to offer adolescents essential aspects they should know about sexually transmitted diseases.
