Abstract

HERNANDEZ CISNEROS, Freddie; GARCIA YLLAN, Lourdes; RAVELO NORDELO, Alfredo  and  GARCIA YLLAN, Verónica. Ingresos hospitalarios en el niño: Caracterización en un área de salud (II). Rev Cubana Med Gen Integr [online]. 1999, vol.15, n.6, pp. 631-635. ISSN 1561-3038.

A cross-sectional study was conducted with 150 children from the Central Tesching Community Polyclinic of Camagüey that were discharged from the Pediatric Teaching Hospital of that city during 1998 in order to characterize them. A survey was done taking into account the following variables: whether the family physician knaw about the admission, attention received before being admitted in hospital, whether the patient had been referred, previous interconsultations, visits to the hospital, quality of the annotations made in the medical history, interrelationship with the doctors at the secondary care level and evaluation on discharge. The data obtained were processed in an compatible IBM microcomputer and the results were shown in tables. The most important results were: in 11.30 % of the patients their physicians didn't know about the admission, 36.60 % were never evaluated by the family physician before admission, 16.60 % were never referred to hospital, 72.60 % were never interconsulted with the Pediatrics Professor of the Basic Working Group, 32 % were never visited at the hospital by the family physician or nurse. No difficulties were observed either in the medical history or in the interrelationship with doctors at the hospital. On discharge, the family physician made an appropiate evaluation of the patient.
