BARRIOS DUARTE, René; BORGES MOJAIBER, Rolando and CARDOSO PEREZ, Laura del Carmen. Beneficios percibidos por adultos mayores incorporados al ejercicio. Rev Cubana Med Gen Integr [online]. 2003, vol.19, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3038.
The objective of the paper is to find out the benefits that older females receive from practicing exercises for a long time and the relations that are established between these benefits and the variables age, educational level, length of practice and former occupation. A sample of 75 persons from 5 grandfather´s clubs in the City of Havana, aged 56-60 years was administered a socio-demographic questionnaire and an interview. Received benefits were grouped into 4 main categories: health, aptitude, psychological and social. There was no dependence relation with any of the analyzed variables, although differences were found in specific categories. The study detailed the benefits that may be received from systematic physical exercising in programs devoted to older people as well as their multidimensional, physical, psychological and social character. The paper confirmed the importance of exercising and provided reasons for encouraging exercise.
