Abstract

GARZON ALVARADO, Diego Alexander; ROA GARZON, Máximo Alejandro  and  RAMIREZ MARTINEZ, Angélica María. Factors influencing on the endochondral growth: experiments and models. A review. Rev Cubana Ortop Traumatol [online]. 2008, vol.22, n.1, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3100.

The main factors influencing on the endochondral development at the pre- and postnatal level are presented. The most important factors of the development of the long bones may be classified into molecular and mechanical, which at the same time, may be defined as intrinsic and extrinsic. In this paper, the fundamental advances attained in the knowledge of the endochondral development are presented, for which a review of the state of the art regarding the experimental, animal and some computer models of the set of all the factors influencing on the growth of a long bone is made. The last part of the article refers to the appearance and development of the secondary centres of ossification and to how mechanics and the molecular factors are closely regulated to control total bone formation.

Keywords : Endochondral development; growth factors; biomechanics.
