Abstract

HERRERA ISLA, Lidcay et al. Ceratocystis fimbriata Ellis & Halst. f. sp. spathodense (new specialization): causal agent of wilt in Spathodea campanulata Beauv. in Cuba. Rev. Protección Veg. [online]. 2015, vol.30, n.1, pp. 40-45. ISSN 2224-4697.

The report of Ceratocystis fimbriata Hell & Halst. affecting the exotic invader plant Spathodea campanulata Beauv. at the locality of Topes de Collantes in the mountain region of Guamhuaya, in the central zone of Cuba, led to further studies to define the taxonomic position of this possible new specialized fungus species. S. campanulata and other economically important plant species commonly occurring in this mountain ecosystem were artificially inoculated with the fungus. Only S. campanulata resulted infected suggesting the presence of a new highly specialized isolate of C. fimbriata, and a new classification for this causal agent was proposed: Ceratocystis fimbriata f. sp. spathodense.

Keywords : phytopathogenic fungi; Ceratocystis; Spathodea campanulata; invasive plant.
