Abstract

A cross ­sectional, descriptive and restrocpective study was carried out in total in total of 136 patients inclueded in pediatric ages till 15 years, diagnosed adn treated for osteochondroma in Eduardo Agramonte Piña Provincial Pediatric Hospital within the period from 1987 ­ 1997. A prevalence in the lower limbs with 64, 2 % was found. The masculine sex prevailed in 64% as to femenine one. The age groups more affected were those of 10 to 14 and 5­9 years with 26, 4 % and 26 % respectively. The cause of admission more frequent was the single tumour with 38 %, followed by the increasing of volume and prin in and 25 % respectively. The most frequent localization was this of osseous metaphysis. near the knee with 37 % in femur and 18 % in the sepper third of the tibia and only 6, 7 % in the distal metaphysis of the same bone .The humerus was involved in 16, 7 % following. The predominant sige of tumour was 2 cm or less in 51 % of all patients. In all cases exeresis of the tumour was performed. Neither recurrence nor maling transformations were found.
