Abstract

A prospective study of 20 type I diabetic children in the Provincial Pediatric Hospital of Camagüey, Cuba was carried out within the period from Octuber 1996 to March 1997 with the aim of determining clinical and subclinical affections present in these patiens . A determination of the metabolic state were performed . Impairment of the nervous conduction was obtained in almost all patients, even with normal neurologic examination; the great mayority of cases presented subclinical neuropathic lesions . Clinical manifestations and subclinical lesions increased with the deterioration of the metabolic control together with the prolongation of the disease evolution time.
