ABSTRACT Culex quinquefasciatus is one of the mosquitos species of higher importance and abundance in the urban area and constitutes serious problem for the public health at present, due to the important role it plays in the transmission of the West Nile Fever This specie, at the same time, has been subjected to a strong process of indirect chemical selection, in which the intensive and extensive use of malathion organophosphate insecticides for more than 6 years (1981-1986), generated a high resistance to various populations was evaluated the current status and/or susceptibility in five stems of Culex quinquesfasciatus (Say, 1823), from Camagüey, through diagnostic doses and tests recommended by the WHO. It was observed in the 100 % of the studied stems, high levels of physiologic resistance to malathion which means that. There is still a resistance to this chemical.
