Abstract

A retrospective, descriptive and longitudinal study about complications occurred during laparoscopy from 1998 to 2002, was carried out in the gastroenterology service at Dr. Octavio de a Concepción y de la Pedraja Military Clinical Surgical Hospital of Camagüey, city. The study universe was composed of 3115 laparoscopies, minor and major complications were differentiated according to the necessity or not of surgical intervention. A total of 64 accidents lower than (2, 05 %), which were produced during the performance of pneumoperitoneum or the introduction of trocar, and only one accident occurred higher than (0, 0·3 %) which required surgical treatment. There was not mortality in the study carried out. Possible complications of laparoscopy, even in skillful hands, could not be ignored. It is necessary to stress that half minor accidents were due to the fulfillment of peumomonitoreum and the introduction of trocar.
