BARRIOS SANCHEZ, José Oscar; VILAS MARTINEZ, Lizandro; CORDOVA DALACIO, Dinorah  and  BARRIOS GONZALEZ, Isel. Histological studies of the oral cavity lesions in the quinquennium 2001-2005. AMC [online]. 2007, vol.11, n.1, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1025-0255.

A longitudinal and descriptive study of the lesions incidence that affected the oral complex, was carried out in the period between January 2001 and December 2005, to 527 patients of both sexes, attended at Head and Neck and Peripheral Tumors Services of "María Curie" Oncology Teaching Provincial Hospital of Camagüey city.  A total of 33 illnesses clinical and histologically, were diagnosed; the patients were classified according to age, sex, race and anatomical location of the lesion. The lesions reported with a greater frequency were the epidermoid carcinomas and the leukoplakias; the lower lip, tongue, gums and cheek, were the most affected anatomical places. The correlation between the clinical and histological diagnosis was about a 75.3%. The need of a premature diagnosis of these lesions in its corresponding level of prevention is indispensable.
