Abstract

Background: the necessity to improve public health practice forces to implement the Quality Management Systems in the laboratories. Objective: to describe the actions carried out in Camagüey province to begin the implementation in effective and sustained way of a in clinical laboratories. Method: a descriptive and documental study of the actions carried out in Camagüey province to implement a Quality Management System according to the Plan of National Action was conducted. Results: twenty-one professionals of different laboratories of the province were qualified to give performance to a plan of national action elaborated on the matter. Emphasis in exhaustive revision and diffusion of the project Good Practices of Clinical Laboratory was made, according to the regulation 3-2008 and in the topic of Ethics with the support of a specialist in Medical Bioethics, to conclude with the diagnosis of the current situation of the participating units. The organizational requirements, of resources and related with the product are fulfilled in the 60% of the units in the province, however, the requirements related with the improvements have around 27% of performance. Conclusions: it is evidenced that the province possesses an organizational strength and resources that will allow implementing the Quality Management System to the extent that requirements and pending resources were supplemented.
