Background: precocious pregnancy is a serious problem that affects many adolescents. Objective: to increase the knowledge level on contraception in adolescents of a high school. Method: an educational intervention study at the high school Alfredo Álvarez Mola in Camagüey municipality was carried out from September 2005 to June 2006. The universe was constituted by three-hundred ninety-eight adolescents; the sample was conformed by one-hundred thirty-six students. A survey was applied before and after the intervention. The information processing was carried out according to the statistical package Microstat. Results: more than the half of adolescents had an inadequate knowledge about contraception, 29,41% had previous sexual intercourses, however, they were evaluated of bad to 20,60% of them and parents were not inside of the main sources of information; when concluding the educational program of knowledge level in 57,35% of adolescents was increased. Conclusions: there was an inadequate knowledge about contraception in most of adolescents was identified; many of them began a precocious sexual life without receiving orientation by their parents. When concluding the intervention an increment of knowledge level was achieved in most of adolescents.
