The in vitro antimicrobial activity and the acute oral toxicity of an aqueous extract of Boerhaavia erecta L. were evaluated. The assay of dilutions in liquid medium was used, and the minimum inhibitory and the minimum microbicidal concentration against microorganisms of human clinical interest were determined. Toxicity was evaluated by the limited dose test according to the norm of OECD. Like other species of the genus, the extract showed antifungal activity against Microsporum canis. As the dose used in the assay caused no mortality, the extract was considered as non toxic.
