Abstract

FERNANDEZ URQUIZA, Fernando  and  TORRES FUENTES, Magali. Pharmacologial study of the leaves of Pluchea carolinensis (Jacq.) G. Don (salvia from the copuntry). Rev Cubana Plant Med [online]. 2004, vol.9, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1028-4796.

La Pluchea carolinensis (Jacq) G. Don, known as salvia from the country has been little studied. In this paper, it is presented the pharmacognostic study that included macromorphology, micromorphology, drying, determination of residual humidity and of the chromatographic profile of the leaves. The length and width of the leaves of P. carolinensis obtained in the study corresponded with the reported in FITOMED. In the cross-sectional cut of the leave numerous trichomas were observed and the chlorophyllous parenchyma in palisade was stressed. Drying in a stove at 33° C was the most effective on erradicating the greatest amount of water in less time. The drug had a 10 % of residual humidity. By thin layer chromatography of the methanolic extract of the leave, it was obtained a chromatogram with 10 stains and a very good resolution that was a useful chromatographic profile to characterize the raw drug.
