Abstract
PAZ NARANJO, José de la et al. Biological evaluation of a polysaccharide crude isolated from Aloe barbadensis Miller in mice with myelosuppresion. Rev Cubana Plant Med [online]. 2005, vol.10, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1028-4796.
The effect of a polysaccharide crude isolated from Aloe barbadensis Miller leaf gel on the hematopoiesis of a mouse with myelosuppression caused by cyclophosphamide was assessed. The evaluated dose was 1.0 mg per animal, intramuscularly-administered for 7 days. The considered variables were: hemoglobin concentration, globular volume percentage, and platelet, retyculocyte and leukocyte count. At the same time, the histological analysis of the spleen, the liver and the bone marrow was carried out to locate hematopoiesis foci. The negative control for evaluation was water for injection. The evaluations were made 8 days after the treatment. It was found that the polysaccharide crude, at the evaluated dose, was only able to increase the total leukocyte count in a statistically significant way. The level of significance was set at p £ 0,05. The results of this study are expected to raise the level of knowledge on the effects of this plant in the hemolymphopoietic system.
