Abstract

JIMENEZ BETANCOURT, Elena. Psychosocial characterization of aged people who committed suicide. MEDISAN [online]. 2011, vol.15, n.3, pp. 339-344. ISSN 1029-3019.

A retrospective and descriptive study was carried out in 9 aged people with attempted suicide that finally committed it, belonging to the health area of "José Martí Pérez" University Polyclinic of Santiago de Cuba from 2000 to 2005 to characterize them psychosocially, thus arranging an interview with close relatives. There was a predominance of male sex, 60-75 age group, secondary educational status and retired workers. Most of the dead had neither history of attempted suicide nor any thoughts in this respect. They were from large family (which relations between members were inappropriate) and had family and personal problems before dying.
