Abstract

An observational and descriptive study of 111 adults with clinical signs of hypertension, assisted in the emergency room of "Camilo Torres Restrepo" Emergency Principal Polyclinic in Santiago de Cuba was carried out from June to December, 2011, in order to decrease high values of arterial pressure and to prevent complications. Data were collected from the medical records of the patients. Female sex (60.4 %), age group of 40-59 years (42.4 %), mestizos (60.4 %) and cephaleas (33.2 %) prevailed in the case material. The best results were obtained with the use of captopril (25.9 %) and the resolutive capacity was achieved up to 2 hours after treatment (71.2 %). It was evidenced that hypertension was the main and more frequent disorder in this health area.
