Abstract

An observational and descriptive study of 433 patients affected by polytrauma of the maxillofacial complex, assisted in the Emergencies Service of Maxillofacial Surgery in "Saturnino Lora Torres" Teaching Clinical Surgical Provincial Hospital from Santiago de Cuba was carried out from January, 2008 to December, 2009. The evaluative methods used were the clinical and/or radiological. The age group 20-29 (25.4%), male sex (61.2%), Saturdays and the early-night, as the most frequent schedules prevailed. The traffic accidents and the injuries taking place constituted the fundamental causes of the facial polytraumatism, associated to the ingestion of alcoholic drinks as inducers of a higher number of accidents and aggressions in the population. The mid-facial third was the anatomical region of more incidence of injuries, fundamentally of the soft tissue and combined injuries, which had a relationship with its predominant clinical findings
