Abstract
TORRES MACHADO, Belkis Beatriz; DOMINGUEZ MIRABET, Yaima and RODRIGUEZ NOA, José Antero. Rabies as a re-emerging disease. Medicentro Electrónica [online]. 2019, vol.23, n.3, pp. 238-248. ISSN 1029-3043.
At present, communicable diseases affect more than 14 million people each year, especially in developing countries. Nearly 50% of deaths are caused by these causes; 90% of them are attributed to diarrheal and acute respiratory infections, AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, measles and rabies. This latter disease has accompanied man throughout his evolution, with a wide global distribution and with the incorporation of a successful treatment since the 19th century. Currently, sectors of human and animal health establish a collaborative alliance in order to eliminate it. In this article, an account of the epidemiological evolution of rabies was made, its influence on humanity and the development of vaccination against this disease; in addition to its re-emergence as a health problem.
Keywords : rabies virus/epidemiology; comunicable diseases.
