Abstract
GARCIA CARDENAS, Belkis; GALVEZ MOYA, Maydelis and DE LA HOZ ROJAS, Liset. Educational actions on oral cancer risk factors in pre-university students. Medicentro Electrónica [online]. 2019, vol.23, n.3, pp. 271-277. ISSN 1029-3043.
Oral cancer ranks sixth among types of cancer worldwide, since at least 95% of neoplasms in the oral cavity are diagnosed as squamous cell carcinomas. Although most of these carcinomas are easy to discover, it is discouraging that many are detected late and that 50% of these lesions are fatal. An educational intervention study was carried out on oral cancer risk factors in students from 15 to 17 years of age at José Martí pre-university in Santa Clara city, during the 2016 - 2017 school year. Educational actions were designed with the purpose of modifying, in a positive way, the level of knowledge on the risk factors of oral cancer. The results achieved were satisfactory.
