Abstract

VILLAVICENCIO GALLEGO, Suleika et al. Approaching sleep disorders in medical students. Medicentro Electrónica [online]. 2020, vol.24, n.3, pp. 682-690.  Epub July 01, 2020. ISSN 1029-3043.

Poor sleep quality is a common problem in modern society. In this paper the most common sleep disorders are exposed, with emphasis on those that affect medical students. Medical students' abilities, their paradigms, culture associated with sleep dynamics and academic demands are among the most studied factors linked to the sources of disorders. This sector, given its youth, dismisses sleep needs at their age. It is necessary to increase education on this subject, which constitutes a beneficial intervention in order to reduce the incidence of the problem. Similarly, it is imperative to identify students at risk and guide them with programs to improve sleep quality; this would be a high value alternative for medical universities.

Keywords : sleep wake disorders; students, medical; academic performance.
