Abstract

SANTIAGO SANTIAGO, Víctor et al. Repellence of White Fly Adults (Trialeurodes vaporariorum West.) to Essential Oils. Fitosanidad [online]. 2009, vol.13, n.1, pp. 11-14. ISSN 1818-1686.

The essential oils are used for the control of some pests as a strategythat does not contaminate the environment, in order to know repellence potential on white fly adults the essential oils of cinnamon (Cinnamomum zeylanicum Breyne), orange (Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck(Rutáceae)), nail (Eugenia caryophyllata Thumb. (Myrtaceae)), tyme(Thymus vulgaris L. (Labiatae)) were evaluate on Trialeurodes vaporariorum West. (Aleyrodidae). Bioassays were realized in greenhouse by the method of the acrylic cylinder, where 20 adults were exhibited to a disc of bean leaf treated with essential oil. The repellence was measured by the difference between insects placed and not placed on the disc at 3, 4, 5, 6 and 24 h after the application. The essential oils of cinnamon and thyme at the concentration of 1% showed the biggest repellence (91 and 93%, respectively), the essential oil of nail was slightly efficient, while the essential oil of orange did not cause repellence. Thyme oil was stable for 12 h.

Keywords : essential oil; white fly; repellence; bioassays.
