Abstract

The presence of Maconellicoccus hirsutus (Green) (Pink Hibiscus Mealybug) (Hemíptera: Pseudococcidae) in Caribbean region, which causes substantial ecological, economic and also social damages, constitutes a preoccupation motive for Cuba, so it is necessary the realization of scientific works that contribute with the knowledge of this family fauna. A prospecting in the whole territory of Cienfuegos province, in Cuba, was realized from 1998 to 2008. The presence of nine genera were determined, eight of them were considered new reports for the province, and it was detected also the species Nipaecoccus nipae (Maskell), Dysmicoccus sp. Dysmicoccus brevipes (Cockerell), Dysmicoccus alazon Williams, Dysmicoccus bispinosus Bearsley, Pseudococcus sp., Pseudococcus elisae Borchsenius, Pseudococcus longispinus Targioni, Kiritshenkella sacchari (Green), Saccharicoccus sacchari (Cockerell), Paracoccus marginatus Williams and Granara de Willink, Phenacoccus sp., Phenacoccus madeirensis (Green), Ferrisia sp., Planococcus sp. and Planococcus citri (Risso). The bigger diversity of this group of insects were collected on plants from genera Musa (10), Coffea (7) and Citrus (6), and main presence levels correspond to N. nipae, followed for S. sacchari and K. sacchari. Three new hosts were identified for N. nipae and one for Phenacoccus sp. and P. madeirensis. Presence of M. hirsutus was not detected in the period evaluated.
