Abstract

ARAGON SULIK, Manuel Dino; NAVARRO MENDOZA, Susana; BELMONTE JIMENEZ, Salvador  and  GUEVARA TORRES, María Ladrón de. Calibration of DRASTIC method in aquifers using nitrate as an indicator. RIHA [online]. 2012, vol.33, n.2, pp. 21-30. ISSN 1680-0338.

A manner to calibrate aquifer vulnerability DRASTIC method is proposed using nitrates as an indicator of pollution. A sensitivity analysis to identify the most important parameters in pollution attenuation was performed. Pearson correlation was used to modify the DRASTIC weights for adapting conditions of the study site. The parameters: depth to water table, soil type and impact on the vadose zone are most influential in the vulnerability index. With the Pearson correlation calibration between nitrate levels and the vulnerability index increased to 0.64.

Keywords : aquifer; groundwater pollution; nitrates; vulnerability; calibration.
