Abstract
YERA DIGAT, Gladis; MIGUEL FERNANDEZ, Constantino de and FAGUNDO CASTILLO, Juan R.. Hydrogeochemical characterization of Najasa subbasin in Camagüey south coastal basin. RIHA [online]. 2012, vol.33, n.2, pp. 31-40. ISSN 1680-0338.
In Najasa subbasin, Camagüey south coastal basin, groundwater has exhibited deterioration in its quality as a result of agricultural bad practices, overexploitation, bad designs in abstraction works and occurrence of extended dry periods. Until now, hydrogeochemical investigations have neither been able to give an integrated knowledge of the subbasin nor of the process of saline intrusion that affects it. In this research its hydrogeochemical characterization is presented which permitted to establish chemical reactions giving origin to the water which appears as proper aquifer water and as mixed water with different amounts of seawater (until 9%). Changes of chemical composition of water in time have not been homogenous, but in a general sense its quality characteristics have been improved.
Keywords : coastal karstic aquifer; hydrogeochemistry; saline intrusion; inverse hydrogeochemical modeling; overexploitation.
