Abstract

The present work introduces experiences in the application of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) technologies in a risk minimization of a sinkhole project in the Republic of South Africa, where the GIS tools facilitates the handling of water and sanitation networks and the management of the incidence reports. The specific characteristics of the project are considered, the phases of the work for developing GIS databases, the preliminary results and the perspectives of development. In the same way some experiences acquired by the work under the South African conditions are presented which might be of interest to Cuba.
