Abstract

JIMENEZ PENA, Yamilé et al. Potential pollution load in hydrogeological sector in Ciego de Avila. riha [online]. 2016, vol.37, n.2, pp. 79-93. ISSN 1680-0338.

Groundwaters are subjected to a continuous threat of pollution from anthropogenic action, such as urban development, agricultural, industrial, mining activities and others which constitutes a risk to the ecosystem and even human health if considered the underground water resource as a supplier for human consumption. That is why in this study the POSH method was applied, a tool which identifies pollution sources framed in the hydrogeological sector CA-I-5, the activities that most influence with polluting sources of interest for the protection of the aquifer together with the classification and estimation of subsurface contaminant load, both of which are a key step in risk assessment programs of pollution and protecting the quality of groundwater in Ciego de Avila province.

Keywords : human action; groundwater; pollution; POSH method.
