Abstract

GARCIA TRISTA, Jenny; COBELOCRISTIA, Willian Daniel  and  QUEVEDO SOTOLONGO, Gilberto Julio. Relationship between strain rate and unsaturated permeability for earth dams. riha [online]. 2016, vol.37, n.2, pp. 94-107. ISSN 1680-0338.

The limitations of traditional Soil Mechanics are evident when you need to explain the deformation in unsaturated soils. That is why in this paper is presented how to obtain the time variation of consolidation when soil permeability varies due to changes in the degree of saturation. In the analysis Rojas and Alanísmodel is applied to obtain the strain rate and Van Genuchtenand Fredlundmodels are applied to obtain the hydraulic conductivity curve in the Capdevila formation unsaturated soil sample, starting from the retention curve. The case study presented is a 22m highearth dam.

Keywords : hydraulic conductivity; retention curve; permeability; unsaturated soils; time of consolidation.
