Abstract

AZUARA GARCIA, Guadalupe; PALACIOS ROSAS, Efrén; MONTESINOS BARRIOS, María Pilar  and  GARCIA-FERRER PORRAS, Alfonso. Model for integrating water assessment in the optimal land use allocation. riha [online]. 2018, vol.39, n.3, pp. 82-96. ISSN 1680-0338.

The assessment of water resources has not been practically integrated as a conditioning factor in spatial planning. In this research a land use optimization model named M-H, based on the MAUSS model is developed. M-H simultaneously evaluates in a novel and simplified way both the quality and quantity of water through its objective minimization functions of: FO1) weighted water stress, FO2) pollution risk and FO3) land use changes in order to identify sustainable land use allocations. M-H improved the results of MAUSS spatial solutions by reducing the water footprint, the pollution risk and the land use changes in 1,4%, 1,6% and 135,6% respectively. In addition it achieved 8,1% lower negative pressures on the environment with no reduction of regional income.

Keywords : land use change; weighted water stress; spatial optimization model; spatial planning; water pollution risk.
